Hypnoanalysis, a special type of therapy

Hypnoanalysis is a very special form of psychotherapy that can help you get rid of obsessive thoughts / behaviours in about 6 sessions, no mater what other forms of therapy you may have tried in the past. This is because hypnoanalysis is fast, powerful and completely natural. Pure Hypnoanalysis is only practised by IAPH therapists, and I believe it is unique because:

So, How does it work?

The natural healing process is how we cope with all of the ups and downs of life. It works by bringing into mind emotional experiences (such as a divorce, being the victim of crime, or the death of a loved one) in bite size chunks until, over time, all the emotion is nibbled away and you can move on in your life. When this process is complete the recall of that experience no longer produces the same intensity of emotion, in technical language you feel resolved about the issue.

We all have this natural healing process, and it's very effective for resolving experiences of which we are already aware. When (as with Obsessional Symptoms) we are affected by experiences that lay outside of our awareness, our healing process is then blocked (because it is impossible to work through experiences that we do not know), and symptoms will remain unless and until the experience which is driving the symptom is prompted back into awareness. Hypnoanalysis is the most effective technique for prompting these experiences back into consciousness.

But nothing bad has ever happened to me!

The mind is a non–linear system. Just as a butterfly beating its wings at one side of the earth can cause a storm at the other, so a trivial experience can cause powerful symptoms down the line. The very fact that you have a symptom also suggests that you are NOT aware of it cause, because when you do become aware of the experience, the symptom WILL dissolve, and you will no longer have the symptom.

What if I already know Why I am obsessional?

Imagine watching a war film where a soldier is walking through the forest. All of a sudden he stands on a land mine and gets injured. You may think his injury was caused at the moment he stood on the mine, but you'd would be wrong. The problem started when the land mine was put into the ground. It does not matter if it was put there a week, a year, or even 10 or 20 years ago, from that moment, it was just sitting under the ground, waiting to be set off.

In the same way obsessive symptoms may lay undisturbed for years, waiting for something to trigger them off. This trigger may be a period of stress, a change in lifestyle, or even something seemingly random. The trigger does not matter. The only thing that matters is knowing how it got there. Once this how is solved, your mind can fully heal itself. For many this healing is almost instantaneous, their symptoms have gone even before they leave my consulting room for the last time. For others, it may take a few days or weeks for the healing process to fully work through. But once the mystery as to why you obsess is revealed, and the healing process worked through, it is inevitable that you will be liberated from your symptom completely and permanently.

To anyone who suffers obsessional symptoms, and thinks they know why, I would simply say No, you know what triggered it off, not why it was already laying there, waiting to be triggered. When you do know why, your symptoms will no longer bother you!

This is equally true for people who believe they have always been obsessional. The fact is that magical thinking is a common phase of child development (Father Christmas, Walking on cracks, Believing that if they think about something that it will happen), but most kids grow out of this. The question is why didn't you? Find out why and you will unlock the cause of your symptom, that symptom will then go away. It is still just a matter of finding out.

Thinking about this has got me nowhere in the past, why is this different?

Many of my clients have thought long and hard about why they do what they do. The more they think, the further away a rational explanation seems to be. The answer is to simply stop rationalising, and to hop freely from one thought to the next, until the actual root cause – the why, comes back into consciousness. This process of free association takes about 6 weeks, and is far more difficult that it first appears, which is why you need a skilled therapist to help you to do it properly. No harm will come to you if you try it on your own, you just won't get very far as everyone has a tendency to intellectualise, contextualise, justify and generally waffle, all of which are fine for normal conversations but are NOT free association. Hypnoanalysis is about freely associating, not waffling or intellectualising! IAPH therapists are so confident we can get you free associating quickly that we will never charge for more that 12 sessions! Remember we are simply hopping through the experiences of your life to find the root cause, NOT looking for an intellectual explanation!

So, what makes pure hypnoanalysis unique is that the therapist is simply teaching you how to FREELY ASSOCIATE, then makes sure that you do it consistently (without intellectualising, contextualising, justifying or waffling) for an hour a week, for a few weeks, until the root cause of your symptom is brought into consciousness. Your mind will then naturally heal itself and you will get over your problems completely and for good. Hypnoanalysis is unique because the therapist is NOT stuffing your head full of their ideas, but helping you to work though your own, natural healing process in the fastest and most efficient way possible!
